Im trying to wall mount my TV, and the only wall i can mount it onto is an external wall. Its got about 2cm of plaster, but then i hit some thing very difficult. ive worked out its not the window lintel as ive tried holes in various places.
its almost like rock, definatly not metal. ive tried masonry drill bits and metal drill bits, but it literally comes to a cease.
Any idea's?
i do have a 1000w PCB Bosch hammer drill and tried with both masonry bits and metal bits.
its just a home, but the wall is like an outside wall.
The only other place i can drill has a huge mirror there. i would drill though the mirror if i knew how, its fixed flat to the wall and i cant remove it

I know I recently saw a tv ad in the UK for an outdoor rotary clothes drier/airer where the whole thing bolted to the side of the home and had it's possess little casing that close it completely away.
I'm fairly certain I didn't imagine this as I remember seeing it several times but I can't remember the brand name and every of my searches only bring up Brabantia's one but it doesn't receive closed away when not in use.
ANY help would be most appreciated. A website or video would be even better!
Thanks!

This every started several months ago when DirecTV called my grandparents saying that they needed to upgrade their old channel package, because theirs was no longer available and they risked their service being canceled because of it. They have had this same exact package since 1997 when they first got DirecTV. They have never missed a payment on a bill, canceled, or suspended their DirecTV service since then and they still have the same package today.
My grandmother called and asked them about it a couple weeks later, but the customer service representative she talked to had no idea what she was talking about, and said not to worry about it. The very next day a DirecTV van came to their home, but none of the employees had any idea about why they were there. My grandmother explained it to them. One of the employees told my grandfather to buy an 8" x 8" board and cement it into the ground behind the home a few feet away from their old satellite dish. He bought the board and did so.
A few days later they returned, but the new employee said the Slimline dish they were going to install needed to be mounted on a metal pole instead of the board. He also said it would be condemned if they ever performed an inspection. They installed the satellite dish on the board anyways and upgraded their old satellite receiver box with an HD box. They do not pay for HD service now nor have they ever and said so to the employee. They have a 20 year old television set that cannot show anything in HD. He said the HD box would pick up SD channels as well and that it would only receive HD channels if they called them back out again to activate the HD software in the box.
That was the last time they ever showed up. Now my grandparents cannot view any channels that are in HD, even with the formatting and resolutions changed to SD settings. They are paying to watch channels like the Discovery Channel (278) and the Hallmark Channel (312), which are included in their package, but the channels show up as black screens and say that they haven't been payed for. This only happens with HD channels, but SD channels show up fine.
My grandmother called them back, but they said that the person whose name on the bill (my grandfather's) is the only person who can ask for a changed or upgraded service, even though SHE was the one who originally called them. I personally called them later, but they said the same thing. They also said that they couldn't change the box back unless it had been broken and was not functioning properly.
They were going to cancel service entirely and switch to Dish Network, but the lease my grandmother signed for the equipment stated that if they do not stay with DirecTV for at least two years they would be charged a $480 fine for each the box and the satellite dish. We called them again and asked how we could receive SD service with the box. The employee stated that we needed to buy another old television and order another separate DirecTV service with a second dish, box, and bill in my grandmother's name.
What I'm asking is does anyone know of a way for them to receive Standard Definition service back? Or is there any way for them to "receive around the lease" and not have to pay a huge fine for canceling DirecTV service? They are on a very limited budget and live so far away from the city that cable TV isn't an option. They still have their old receiver box and satellite dish, both of which they possess. When the new Slimline satellite was installed the employee installing it clip the cable to the old satellite so it couldn't be reconnected.

My husband and I just bought our first home. We are trying to figure out if we should buy a tv stand for our 60" plasma tv or if we should mount it on the wall. We did look into different mounting units and how much the tv weighs and how much the mounts can hold. My only concern is we have Verizon Fios and we need our cable box out. I looked online and saw people put tv stands below the tv once it is mounted on the wall, but I don't like that. Use one or the other. So is there any nice of shelf we should use or just a regular shelf would be ok...any suggestions?

I am new to amature radio and am currently setting up my hut and and antenna array. My question is, I am building a J-Pole antenna out of copper pipe, this antenna will go about half way up the TV tower (unused) on the side of my home (for safety reasons... 40 ys old...) . SO.. Can I just clamp this antenna directly to the metal tower or should I isolate it somehow from the metal of the tower? if it is to be isolated, how should I go about grounding the antenna for lightening protection?
someone told me I can simply clamp the antenna to the tower, but I don't know... please advise
Thanks
Hey every,
thanks for the great info, I am not a member of a club yet and I would adore to receive some onsite advice from a local ham before mounting. There is alot of conflicting info regarding this question. I only want to mess with the mounting once so I'm trying to ensure I'm doing things the best way possible. So I was planning on just clamping it directly to the side of the mast (galvanized) but it sounds as though it may affect performance. I guess I'll be looking for an extention mounting scheme. I'll be looking for someone in my area for more help in person as suggested. Thanks
Hey, how about panting the copper with a few coats of clear varnish as a means to isolate the metals? But if it is completely isolated, as some suggested it should, what about grounding?
Thanks every..
Lou K (FCC License pending)
AS far as weather treatment goes, the copper will be soldiered together, complete with end caps. I have designed a bottom feedline port for the feedline which will seal that connection aswell while still attaching the feedline at the required location on the antenna. Any incidental holes or possible areas of leakage will be sealed with silicone.

I have a 32" westinghouse LED tv in my bedroom and would like to hear opinions on a wall mount. The room is about 10x10' and I can't decide if I should buy a swivel mount or a tilting mount. I plan on putting the tv on the long side wall where it can be seen from the bed, and then I will have a seat in the corner which I will move towards the middle of the room next to the bed when I want to watch a movie or something. I am also in the close future buying a 5.1 system which is why I would want to be in the middle of the room. I found a sanus tilting mount for 50 dollars on Amazon, and a full motion mount for 80. I think for my size of room a tilting mount makes sense but it will be viewed slightly from the side if I am laying in bed. This is difficult to describe but what do other people have in their rooms?

Im just curious if they are certified and license to install equipment such as wires, wall mounts etc? Do they learn about cutting drywall or something like that? Please explain if you guys have details! Thank you. I want to know if they carried some nice of license or something like that. I wish you know what i mean. If you have had a personal experience good or bad about the installation please do tell!! My husband and I are in the early planning stages for building our first home. We have a home plan picked out and have contacted a builder about beginning this process. I like to plan ahead as much as possible, and, since new furniture for our living room is a consideration once we build, I have been looking over the layout of the living room to try and receive an idea of furniture placement. But I'm having trouble. I've included a link to the floor plan; I have made changes to the original. The room itself is 15X19, with a fireplace located centrally on the eastern wall. The plan calls for a vaulted ceiling, which we will not be including. Currently we have a sofa, two over-sized chairs, an ottoman, and a tv armoire. Once we build, we might opt for a sectional instead of the sofa we have. We would like a comfortable arrangement for lounging and tv watching, and really aren't wanting to mount the tv over the fireplace.

I will be mounting a 42" TV over my fireplace. The way the space over the fireplace was framed isn't optimal for installing a wall mount, as there is a stud of the left side, right side, and 2 side-by-side in the middle. The wall mount isn't wide enough to reach the outer studs on the left and right hand sides. The instructions indicate the wall mount should be anchored into 2 studs. Here is a crude illustration, with the ``` being the mantle, and each | being a stud:

I have 3 questions about my situation:
1) Will it be safe to use the 2 middle studs? I would use 4 bolts to do this.
2) If option one is not safe, would it become safe if i used drywall anchors and bolts for extra support in between the outer and middle studs on both the left and right sides?
3) If option 2 in OK, concrete anchors were included with the wall mount. Can these be used on drywall?
Here is my wall mount:

I am setting up a server in the middle of my home which will control security system and also double as my media middle for the tv's in the kitchen and living room. I would also like to use this as a music player for speakers mounted in the ceilings of most rooms in the home. I have the server what sort of speakers and what sound equipment would I need to connect this to the computer to the speakers and then be able to control where the sound will be played? eg. only the kitchen.
I presume a sound card in the pc but what one and how do i connect the speakers?
Any direction or help would be great! thanks :)
After reading peoples posts I have a clearer image on what I think I need to do.
I do not want to pay anyone to install this system for a starter. ( I like getting hands dirty :) )
I already have a server in a locked cage below the stairs with the internet & tv signal being fed into there.
Off the server two direct video connections to:
1) a touchscreen (which will be the control point for the sound system)
2) The living room tv (server will be used as media middle also
I would like to do this withought buying a polished system as I already have alot of the tech in place.
If i was to buy an audio RCA switch box and amp how would I control the sound volume/ what rooms its playing in from the touchscreen... Is this even possible?
I have created a hardware map if this helps anyone understand what I am trying to do :)

Well here's the deal, we have this 50" Samsung flat screen tv and it came with a wall mount. So we decided to move the tv up a little higher on the wall (we had it too low) and when we unscrewed the wall mount from the wall, the paint from the wall stuck onto the mount, so we had to receive a knife to chip it off (the paint melted from the tv heat). Back behind the tv it was nice of hot too. Is this normal or should we make sure we don't leave the tv on every the time? Thanks for your answers.

I have been waiting for this moment for a rather long time! Yeah!! I FINALLY got my 60 inch TV.
I would like to know if I should make this other decor move. The TV is sitting on a cabinet because we do not want to put it on a wall mount. The ceiling is normal height and now there is about 3 feet of blank space over the TV. The whole TV/stand unit sits inside a niche in the wall right next to the flame place.
Would it be ok to place a long metal art decor over the TV?? Wish I could attach a pic of the empty space and the metal decor.
Thanks!!!!

The TV I'm currently using does not have the red yellow and white ports, only the blue green and red ones so from my Xbox cable I'm using the green blue and red to go into the TV and the red yellow and white with splitters and they go to my dazzle etc.... my question is if I'm using the green blue red cables to plug into the TV will my Xbox still send the signal along the other three wires because I cannot pick up the signal from my laptop.
Also the TV is wall-mounted and the female ports are in the back not the side so using a scart and splitters with the cables coming out would be far too big.
Any help will be Greatly appreciated.

Okay, so I have 350 euro and I'm getting a tv for 225. The tv is a flat screen tv/dvd combo and the price includes a wall mount.
I was thinking of getting a xbox 360 elite but I saw the new xbox 360 4gb. It cost around 199 euro and I have another week of work so I'll have 215 euro to spend on it. I also receive 5 euro pocket money every week and I could wait to buy it strait after Christmas. If I keep up then ask for money after Christmas I'll have about another 200-300 euro so now I have 400-500 to spend.
Now back to the question.
Will I receive xbox 360 4gb after Christmas with
Harry potter games
Skate 3
Naughty bear
Band hero (super bundle)
Guitar hero 5 (software)
Sims 3
Rockband 2 (software)
fable 3
Assassins creed 2
and any other games that are out. Thats only a few of the games I'd receive.
I don't want a ps3 slim!
Should I wait till after Christmas?
Should I receive it at every?
and I don't like the shiny 250gb.

OK so I bought this TV about 3 years ago, it is a 55" VIZIO plasma screen TV and I have it mounted on the wall. About a year ago, the remote went crazy and just stopped working, no matter what I do it will just not work! I could still turn the TV on manually until about a few months ago.
Here is my REAL problem: The power button stopped working on the TV! there are only a few buttons on the side of the TV, and the top 4 stopped working for no reason! Now everytime I want to watch tv or play video games I have to plug the TV in, and press the input button until its on the right input. Then when I'm done I must reach behind the TV and unplug it. It is such a pain in my ass to do this everytime, can someone please help?!

I'm planning on buying a new TV, to replace my huge, bulky, 15 year old one. Don't need a big one, but a flat screen that I can mount on the wall and then swivel from the kitchen to the living room would be ideal. I like downloading video and music on my PC, and I'm wondering if the newer TVs have a USB port. I'd adore to be able to put video from my PC onto a stick, and then watch it on the TV. I'm very technologically challenged, and would like to have some information before I put myself at the mercy of a salesperson. I'm probably not going to be able to spend more than $300 or so, and just wondering if this is possible.

I'm claustrophobic, and my room is the smallest bedroom in the home. It's SUPER tiny. I have a closet which is mostly filled with clothes from when I was like 6 (but my mom would probably kill me if I threw them away) and I have a TV on one side mounted on the wall with a cable box underneath it. Then I have the bed, sitting horizontally from the TV (meaning if I sit up in bed, I can watch TV.) Right by the door I have an armour thing with some clothes in it, then to the right of it I have a dresser. Right next to my bed is a nightstand, and then I have a tiny desk. How can I rearrange it so I have more room to walk around?
Btw right next to my bed are two windows which are together.

We are moving and sold our plasma tv which is currently mounted on the wall. We lost the security wrench for our plasma flat screen so we can't remove it from the wall mount. Is there a work around?
Thanks to everyone. We were able to obtain the part number of the security bolt and find the proper Allen wrench for it.

August 15th, 2010. India will be celebrating its 64th Independence Day. The radio will be blaring ‘Aye mere watan ke logon’. TV channels will alternate between ‘Roja’, ‘Rang de Basanti’, ‘Border’ and ‘Lakshya’. Schools across the country will compel their students to shed Sunday morning sleepiness and partake in flag-hoisting ceremonies. Milestones will be recounted, leaders glorified and saffron, white and green will dominate the landscape . Indians across the country will wear patriotism on their sleeve.
what are we actually celebrating? Are we rejoicing over how corrupt officials pick heftier bank balances over national pride? Or maybe we’re glad about how our elected representatives decide to put the country’s security at risk to further their possess agendas.
Elsewhere in India, an eight-year-old girl was mercilessly beaten up by her teacher for failing to contribute Rs 2 to an Independence day function. This is the nice of ‘freedom’ kids in this country like, where corporal punishment is an everyday occurrence that rarely comes to the fore.
Kashmir continued to boil this week with this summer’s death toll from violence rising to over 50. The Indian establishment has been unable to win over the Kashmiri population through overwhelming force and the protests in the valley are directed against the military presence. Bunkers and security forces symbolise India for most Kashmiris.
Nature’s fury hasn’t left us unscathed either. The cloudburst and subsequent floods in Leh, has turned entire towns to slush and has left the area to appear like a war ravaged battleground. The death toll is at 183 and mounting while over 200 people are still missing.
The oil spill off the coast of Mumbai last Sunday after two cargo ships collided has brought up severe environmental concerns. Marine life and migratory birds have been affected and the livelihood of thousands has been hampered with estimated losses over Rs 85 crore per day. This environmental hazard occurred even as 25 years after the Bhopal Gas Tragedy, the Congress party faced allegations of letting off the guilty below political pressure. Victims of the tragedy have till date not been provided adequate compensation and health care.
The Indian cricket team, on whom lies the brunt of the nation’s collective aspirations, has also let us down this time with a humiliating 200-run defeat in Tuesday’s ODI against New Zealand.
Industrial growth is at the lowest its been in 13 months even as inflation has returned to double digits.Petrol and diesel prices seem to be hiked every month. Prices of commodities like milk, cereals and fruits have touched an every-time high. Soaring expenses means that even the middle class are crossing out essentials from their grocery list and the needy are going hungry. This is even as surplus foodgrains lie rotting in godowns. Like the line from a tune in ‘Peepli Live’ goes: Sakhi Saiyan khoob hai kamaat, Mehngai daiyan khaye jaat hai (pal, my husband earns a lot, but the inflation is a witch that eats it every up).

Are every the over reasons, cause enough to celebrate? The optimist in me will still search for those odd success stories and attempts to overcome calamities. I too adore my country and wish to be proud of what I look happening in it. To my misfortune, events of the recent past are making my wish seem like just wishful thinking.

Helllo. My husband installed an Inland swivel flat panel tv mount today. Mount rated to hold up to 138lbs and up to a 50" TV. TV that was hung was a 50" 75lb TV, so within guidelines per manufacturer. Lifted the TV onto the mount tonight and it just didn't look stable. It looked wiggly so we took it back down. After assessing the situation without the TV on the mount, we noticed the screws were starting to arrive out of the wall, pulled them out and they were snapped completely in half! We have had a flat panel TV for years, probably since 2004 and have installed previous wall mounts with no problem. We were just replacing our old mount with this swivel/tilt mount due to the big windows in our family room causing glare. Needless to say, glare or not, we took the new mount down, put the old mount back up and the new mount is going back to the store.
Do you think this is a manufacturer's defect that the maker (Inland) should be made aware of? I mean, if the screws can snap right in half, a TV could fall and could realistically kill someone who is sitting below it (most likely a kid).
Or should we just return it?
And before you ask, YES, every directions were followed and NO the screws were not over-tightened.
They appear to be cheap screws.
Oh for petes sake I NEVER dreamed to add the detail of whether or not the screw was put in the studs!!! YES, we used a GOOD stud detector and put the darn things in the studs.
And even though you (one responder) think a screw could not possibly snap in half unless it was overtightened, that is not the case. It was not overtightened. But I know you will continue in your misguided belief, so carry on.
I was wanting to know if you think this is serious enough to tell the manufacturer of the mount or just leave well enough alone and take it back.
We already put the old mount back up, so the new mount is going back either way. (and interestingly, the old mount still works fine even though we "overtighten" screws)
Why is it some people have to argue with you that you MUST still have done something to cause whatever even though you say you did not????

Okay, to start off with, yesterday I had a man that I have only met twice (but really like and he's told me about his calling to preach, blah blah nice guy) arrive into my home to finish mounting a flat screen TV he'd started a couple of days ago. His wife works with my girlfriend. He was cutting plastic, and he pulled out a switchblade and flung it open and it scared me to death! But then we laughed and joked about it, and he told me that only people in the forces can legally have those.
So, more background info, my neighbor Craig. He was unmarried, but living with his girlfriend until recently when she left. A couple of years ago, my girlfriend (I'm a lesbian) nice of had "dirty talk" with him on the computer and I kicked her out for 2 months. Everything has been fine since, we don't talk to him, he doesn't talk to us...I don't receive upset about it at every. He is rather weird, techy guy with a 500 item "hate list" he's been keeping for years, doesn't like kids...ect. But recently his home went up for sale. So I feel like I have been paying more attention to what he is doing, ect.
Fastforward to my dream: I am in high school again (25 now). There are lots of people I know. I keep hearing from others that someone is going to kill me. I don't really believe that. I'm told I better not tell anyone. Of course, I do! I tug aside an old high school pal of mine that I trusted, (don't talk to her now) and started explaining to her that I might be killed tonight and she needs to call the police and tell them I said this if I don't call her at a certain time. But I am interupted by laughter behind me. My pal is gone, and a gang of people are laughing at me. Craig is one of them. I try to ask one of them if this is serious, are they really going to do this? They say yes. Craig is going to butcher me alive and they are going to help. I try every thing I can to receive out of it while we are walking to his home. We are suddenly inside. There is only one person who I don't know a white blonde guy who seems a little nice, and Craig. Craig is doing some things to his "tools." The other guy is in charge of watching me. I talk to him and he tells me I will be awake while they do this. I tell him I'll pass out. He just shrugs and says, "That's how Craig says he does it." Now I am more scared. There is water poured over my head. I think the guy did it, or someone else, but I don't mind that, even though I think it is part of their ritual or either they are trying to make me mad. I wait until no one is looking, and then I run out the front door. I am in my neighborhood now, running down the road. I keep looking back at the home, hoping he won't arrive and catch me. Instead of running into my home, I am running the opposite way, trying to find a home that looks like I could go up, knock, and be let in right away. I probably pass about seven houses. And then I wake up.
A little background info--don't know if this has anything to do with the dream, but I have had lap band surgery two months ago and I am going in for a fill today, which involves a needle in the stomach. Not a very pleasant experience last time I went.
Not sure what every this means, but I thought it was interesting and at least wanted to post it :)
Thanks,
Candy

I am getting Rock band three for Christmas, and with the new 7 players, I'm going to need a big screen tv. My sister's TV skews the image, and i want to have a clear image visible to 7 players around the room.
What size and types of flat screens would be best?
Please keep in mind I have tiny kids, so a plasma is not a good idea. They would destroy it. (unless i can mount it on the wall?)

I possess a 32" tube TV (not a flat screen). I recently bought a TV armoire, with doors that close to hide the TV. There is a magnet mounted in the top middle of the armoire (a few inches from the TV screen) that holds these doors in place when they're closed.
I recently noticed that the magnet is starting to distort the colors on the screen close the area where it's mounted. Is there anything I can do to protect the TV from further distortion? Some nice of rubber insulation, for example?
I'd prefer not to remove the magnet, and I'm not buying a new TV.
Thank you!

I'm limited on floor space in my new apartment. I just bought a flat screen TV for my room that has a built in DVD player so that I could keep room and mount it on the wall. IOnly problem is that I forgot about the cable box.
Can someone please provide tips, websites, products, anything like that which may be helpful for me to figure out how to mount my cable box on my wall (if that's possible) I'm thinking like a shelf but I don't know where, how, or how much. help!
Where did the first answerer go?? Why did you delete your answer! You provided a really good link, unlike the other person, and I forgot what it was!

For some reason, my garage was a classroom. My phone kept ringing, and everytime I looked down at it, it was a different boy (none of which I knew in RL) and when I looked up something was different about my surroundings. The last time I looked up, everyone was gone, and the TV mounted on the wall showed the news station saying, "There is something big running through the streets...please take caution...we don't know what it is or what it's after..." I exited the garage to look my mom holding my dog by her hind legs so she was upside down. I asked what was wrong with her and she said I don't know. It was dark so I went inside.
A kitten that I fostered once came in the same time I did, and I jumped for joy and pointed at her. Her eyes got HUGE and her fur turned black as she pounced on my hand and wouldnt let go. I flung her out the door when my mom came in, and just as my mom closed it this HUUUGE thing that looked like Beast from "Beauty and the Beast", only with shimmery gold fur and black stripes, tried to tear through. I screamed and ran upstairs, and I could hear it wall-running around the home to break a window in each room I was going to run to. I woke up when I got to the last room.
Meaning?

I got a Pug last year, after my 16th. I paid for his toys, his bedding, his training classes etc and i spend alot of time each day training him and he now knows well over 30 tricks including skateboarding and taking him out for a walk before each meal so about 2-3 times a day. My mum decided to receive a Pug too. She took him to training classes but didnt do any training outside of classes. She allows him to tug her on walks instead of correcting him as i and the puppy trainer have showed her how. She only makes him sit at crossings and wait sometimes rather than every the time so there is alot of inconsistency. When she or anyone else in the family eats something her Pug jumps up onto their lap uninvited and sits right by their faces. They never correct him or tell him to receive off. I taught my Pug never to do that, he only sits close people if they have food but wouldnt dare jump up on me or anybody. Her pug doesnt dare jump up on me either. She only walks him once a day but thats only if i nag at her to do so.
Today i told her to spend a little time doing some obedience with him as he an barely even lay down. Thats a baby trick. She had the treats but was giving a half-assed attempt at it. she sat there watching tv and wasnt even into the training. Her pug sat there eagerly awaiting some commands because he LOVES to learn when he gets the chance but she didnt bother. He jumped up and down on the spot trying to receive her attention then jumped upon the sofa and peed on it. THat didnt even receive her attention she didnt even bother to clean it up for another hour as she was watching TV. hes at the age now to start testing his dominance. Hes started mounting my Pug too which i cease him from doing so immediately.
Its like ive been lumbered with the responsibility of her pet. Its silly, most teens who receive a dog its the parents who end up with the responsibility but now it is me.
Should i take on this dog and spend the time doing obedience with him and walking him along with my pug now? she doesnt seem to bother and any training i do she is inconsistent with. its really difficult and im not sure what to do. My Pug walks to heel, hers does too when shown to but she doesnt she lets him tug. When i take the leash from her i have him on my right and my pug on my left and they both walk to heel so should i just take over the responsibility here?!!
